“Defined by Others,” a Theatre-based Exploration of the Social Implications of Identity

Our identities shape our experiences and interactions, but what happens when others don't see or understand us the way we see and understand ourselves?  In this unique program, participants are invited to reflect on their own identities and share thoughts and feelings about times they were treated differently because of who they are. Our Performance Educators use Playback Theatre techniques to reflect these stories back, providing participants with opportunities to make connections and build empathy. Through discussion and other interactive and theatre-based activities, participants examine how assumptions and unconscious biases can affect our relationships and behaviors.
